Rex Herman

Rex Everett Herman passed on November 17, 2024 due to injuries sustained in a train accident. 

He was born to Oaka Mae (Straw) Herman and Alvin J Herman on July 30, 1936. He was 88 years of age.

Rex was raised in Dover, Mn. Where he attended Dover schools and was active in sports. Rex was very proud of being a Dover resident for 88 years.

Rex married Marie Hartwick and together they raised 5 daughters; Joan Ferrier (Craig), Lynn Platte (Kris), Janet Peckham (Michael), Patricia Herman (Joel Lindstrom) & Beverly Benson.

Rex spent a brief period in the military until he was injured and returned home.

Earlier in his life Rex had been a Member of the Dover Fire Department, Moose Club and American Legion in St. Charles, MN, and served as Legion Umpire.

Rex had a career in Carpentry and enjoyed driving through the Counties pointing out the buildings he had built or worked on. He was an avid bowler and golfer in his early years. He had a passion for playing cards, not many could beat him. He enjoyed watching Western, Girls Basketball and Reading. He was a history buff and could share many articles with you. 

 Rex’s highlight of his retirement, was to go to Del’s Café daily and be with his “Coffee Buddies”. Rex was a man, with strong opinions & a witty sense of humor. We will greatly miss our husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa & friend.

Rex is also survived by his grandchildren: Kelli Arn, (Jared) Kendra Lilla, (Brent) Lindsey Houston, (Garett), Ryan Schwoch, (Michelle), Carley Platte, Jaimison Peckham, Garritt Luker, (Kaley) Logan Luker, Jordin Splittstoesser & Grant Benson and 12 great grandchildren. 

A sister-in-law Mary Herman and many niece & nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, 2 infant great grandchildren, a son- in- law, his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. 

We would like to thank the staff at St Mary’s Emergency Room, 7 Mary Brigh & 5 Frances for their compassion, comfort and great care with Rex. 

Arrangements for Rex will be with Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles, whom we also Thank. 

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, 12pm-2pm at Hoff Funeral Home (519 St. Martin Ave. St. Charles, MN). Rex will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles.
