Raymond S. Koenig, 76, of rural Altura died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at his home. Ray was born October 20, 1930 in Elba to Clement and Thelma (Peabody) Koenig. He grew up on Oak Ridge and later in St. Charles. He married Doris Burdick, they later divorced. Ray and Sadie Hoppe Hentges were married on October 23, 1970 in Winona. Ray worked as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked as a diesel mechanic for Schultz Transit of Winona and retired from Quarve-Anderson. After retirement Ray farmed and worked for Circle A Farms. Ray loved to ride motorcycle and took many trips in the US and Canada with his riding friend Frank Stark. In 1954 he was the Minnesota Motorcycle Scrambling champion. He also played harmonica and guitar and enjoyed country music. Ray loved his dogs, Bill and Jake. In his retirement Ray enjoyed woodworking, making clocks and toys and camping. Survivors include his wife Sadie, seven children; Curt (Gayle) Koenig of St. Charles, Edward (Peggy) Koenig of Winona; Lynn (Dean) Bockenhauer of St. Charles, Mike (TaeMin) Hentges of Seoul, South Korea, Lisa (Raymond) Johansen of Shoreview, Charles Hentges of Stockton and Tom Hentges of Lewiston, 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a sister, Genevieve Beyers of Winona. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a niece. A Funeral Mass will be 10AM Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church (new church at HWY 14 East, St. Charles) with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's, St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church.
