St. Charles,
Peter Edward Fort, Jr., 88, of St. Charles died Wednesday, May 4th at his home. Pete was born September 13, 1927 at Stockton Hill to Peter Fort Sr. and Margaret Fort. He married Grace Plinski and they later divorced.
Pete worked for Wolter Lumber in St. Charles and later became a partner in P.E.R. Construction. Pete loved to hunt and trap. He was also an avid gardener and had an immense passion for flowers, especially amaryllis and fern peonies. The beauty of his flowers provided a smile to many of the faces in the community as they walked by and observed them. Pete was also a wonderful baker and could make one delightful blueberry pie! He also ensured the cookie pail was never left empty. Pete loved visitors, in particular the ones who he could share his stories, witty sense of humor and of course take on in a game of cribbage. When you heard him whistling you knew the cards were good!
Survivors include his son Greg Fort of St. Charles, three daughters; Kathy (Bill) Farnsworth of Buena park, CA, Gail (Dainis) Eglitis of Westlake Village, CA and Cindy (Ron) Lompart of Camarillo, CA, 10 grandchildren; Jackie Vaughn, Jamie Fort, Nathan Fort, Brent Eglitis, Deonna McDonald, Heather Carraway, Aaron Lewis, Amanda Lompart, Allie Lompart and Brock Lompart, 17 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Susan (Joe) Nienow of Winona and Janet Gipe of Florida, and two brothers Roger (Gloria) Fort of Minnesota City and Jon (Pat) Fort of Winona.
