Peggy L. Johnson
Peggy Louise Johnson, 88, of Rushford went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 17th, 2016. She died at home with her family at her side. Peggy was born December 28, 1927 in Mapleton, MN to Amiel and Adeline (Albrecht) Schultz. She was raised in Mapleton, Minn and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1945.
On November 2nd, 1947, she married Lyle N. Johnson. They were married 61 years and raised three children. In June of 1950, Peggy and Lyle moved to Rushford and bought the Rushford Bakery, which they owned and operated for 40 years. She was the smiling face of the bakery. She enjoyed greeting and chatting with anyone who entered the door, particularly the high school students who would come down during lunch hour for a treat. She also enjoyed giving tours to the second grade students and reading the thank you notes they would send. She was most famous for her mocha cakes. Peggy and Lyle retired from the bakery in 1990. In 1998, they received the Retired Rushford Business Award presented by the Rushford Area Business Association. She was active as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, as well as a Band Mother at the Rushford School.
Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family, going out dancing, sewing, creating various crafts, keeping numerous stats for basketball games, as well as following the different activities of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also looked forward to her "birthday club" outings. She was a tireless worker both in the bakery and at home. She always put her family first.
