St. Charles, Patsy Jo "Pat" Finley of St. Charles, age 75, died unexpectedly at home on May 11, 2013.Pat and Robert "Bob" Finley married in 1960 and made a life together first in Maple Park, IL, and then in St. Charles, where they raised children Judy (Steve Hammes), Joe (Lynette Kerce), Mike (Kassie Madden), Steve (Joann), Jeanne (Alex Wilson), Trish, David (Angela) and Beck (Mike Ireland). Pat was devoted to grandchildren Aimee and Cole (Melanie) Finley; Andy Hammes; Bridget, Brendan and Brynn Finley; Leo and Beau Finley; Aidan and Conner Finley; Thea and Zane Wilson; and Navajo daughter Shelley (Tim) Doyle and children Alex, Ethan and Timara. Pat also leaves behind brother Larry Broadhurst, sisters-in-law Rosemary Kennedy and Charlotte (Jack) Mosher, many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and beloved animals. She was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Loveta Broadhurst and sister Judy Ferry.Pat was a graduate of Eldorado High School, St. Xavier College (Bachelor of Science in nursing) and Northern Illinois University (Master of Science in nursing). Her varied and extensive career led to prestigious positions at health care facilities in the Chicago area, later followed by professorships at College of St. Theresa and Winona State University. She also served as nursing director at Whitewater Health Care, coordinator of St. Charles Area Hospice, community health nurse for Kenyata Service Unit (Navajo Nation, Shonto, Black Mesa and Cowsprings, AZ) and manager of Migrant Health Services (Blooming Prairie, MN).Pat and Bob wintered in Florida, traveling throughout the Keys for many years before setting down roots in Big Pine in 2012.In addition to the immense love she had for family and the innumerable individuals whose lives were enriched by her boundlessly generous personality, Pat was passionate about myriad aspects of the world at large, her life one of exploration, education and altruism.A celebration of Pat's legacy will be 2PM Saturday, May 18th at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service, 519 St. Martin Ave. in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8PM Friday and 1-2PM Saturday at the funeral home.
