Patricia Irene (Jordan) Berkley was born April 1, 1948 to Helen (Petty) and Robert Jordan, Jr., in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away May 30, 2017 after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was educated in Des Moines, where she met Ed Berkley, and went on to graduate from Mankato State University with an elementary teaching degree. She and Ed were married May 23, 1970. They made their home in Des Moines, where she taught elementary school for eleven years. They were blessed with three children of their own. They moved to Winona in 1983. Pat soon found her heart leading her to counseling, and received her Masters in Elementary Counseling from Winona State in 1988. She worked for the Onalaska and Winona Public schools in multiple schools during her career, most notably at Jefferson, Goodview, and Rollingstone. Her charitable heart led her to take many students under her care, especially Kristina, whom has become a part of the Berkley family. Pat's beautiful heart touched so many in need. Pat was a strong player and supporter of tennis in Winona. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, and her time spent teaching Sunday school at Central Lutheran Church. She was very passionate about the Jordan family history and how it played a part in the Underground Railroad in West Des Moines in her ancestors' home. Pat started a chess club for elementary students in the Winona district, and took them to tournaments around the state. She enjoyed travel and vacationed with her husband and kids whenever possible. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Ed; her three children: Scot (Becky) Owatonna, MN; Lynn (Nayan) Ramnanan, Atlanta, GA; Jeff (Jessy), Deforest, WI; eight Grandchildren: Luke Berkley, Marc Berkley, Valarie Berkley, Tate Berkley, Laura Ramnanan, Megan Berkley, Lana Ramnanan, and Rebekah Ramnanan; brother Robert (Kathy) Jordan, Waterloo, IA; Brother-in-law Robert (Christine) Berkley, Pace, FL; three nieces and nephews: Lisa (Paul) Gately, Oakland, CA; Jenna (Kevin) DeRoos, Clive, IA; Ryan (Krystal) Berkley, Pace, FL; and many cousins and good friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to support children in need throughout Minnesota. Some of her favorites were Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota and the Bob Allison Ataxia Research Center in Minnesota. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Reverend Wade Davick officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 16 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center, Goodview, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
