Orvis Grandon Johnson, 91, of Chatfield, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Faribault Care Center, where he had resided for a short time. Orvis was born July 21, 1921, in rural Fountain, to Peter O. and Minnie (Foss) Johnson. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1939. On Sept. 9, 1953, he married Shirley Bothun at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He farmed for 20 years. He also worked for Gunderson Motors as a mechanic in Preston for 20 years. He was a member of the Chatfield Brass Band. He loved to work on cars and to look at them. He also loved music, and once he got used to it, he loved to travel. He enjoyed his grandsons, going to their activities and talking Norwegian. Orvis is survived by two daughters, Lynette (Mike) Simser of Northfield, and Janelle (Randy) Paulson of Chatfield; four grandsons, Andrew and Adam Simser, and Alex and Aaron Paulson; one brother, Gordon (Edna) Johnson of Chatfield; and two sisters, Viola Johnson of Chatfield, and Ruth Hall of Minot, N.D. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Chatfield Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Docken officiating. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, at the Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
