Odin T. Gaustad

LaCrescent, Minn. - Odin T. Gaustad, 88, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2004, at the LaCrescent Health Care Center in LaCrescent, Minn. He was born on January 11, 1916, to Oscar and Anna (Jordhaugen) Gaustad on Twin Ridge in Yucatan Township, Houston County. He was baptized and confirmed at Stone Church in Houston, Minn. Odin married Dorothy Happel on November 29, 1940. Shortly after they married, Odin moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked at the Allison Motors Plant, building motors for warplanes. After the war ended, the family moved back to the Houston area where he farmed, worked at the John Deere Implement in Houston and did carpentry work until his retirement. In his spare time, Odin was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and hard to beat card player. Odin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Deanna (Dale) Cornforth and Donna (Duane) Oldenburg, both of LaCrescent, Minn.; three grandchildren, David Cornforth (Robin Stanton), Doug (Holly) Cornforth, and Darcy Cornforth (Lyle Lemke); two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samuel Cornforth; four sisters: Clara Ledebuhr of Houston, Minn., Agnes Mierau of Rushford, Minn., Violet Traff of Houston, Minn. and Lillian Collins of Sun City West, Ariz.; and by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gladys Rostad and one brother, Jerry Gaustad. Odin was a kind and loving husband, father grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace Odin, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa G. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minn. with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston at a later date. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel.
