Norman O. Highum, 85, of Eyota, was called to heaven on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. Norm was born December 22, 1932 in Appleton, MN to William and Jennie (Ophaug) Highum. He grew up in east St. Paul and graduated from Harding High School. Norm and M. Phyllis "Billie" Mielke were married September 27, 1952. They made their home in St. Paul until moving to Eyota in 1969. In St. Paul Norm worked for Brown and Bigelow before owning and operating a service station, he then worked for Home Gas . In 1969 he was transferred to the Rochester location and ultimately became plant manager for Texgas/Suberban Propane. Following his retirement Norm worked as the Regional Director for the Loyal Order of Moose and drove courtesy van for Adamson Chrysler. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, served on the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Council, Eyota City Council, Eyota Planning Commission and served as deputy Mayor.
Norm is survived by his wife, Phyllis, six children; Jim (Mary Jane), Jeff, Tom (Dorothy), Mark (Renae), Jeanne (Scott) Ferguson and Julianne, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a sister Lorraine King and several brother and sisters-in-laws. He was preceded in death by a brother Wallace and several in-laws.
A Funeral Mass for Norm will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota with the Reverend Tim Biren officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in the spring. Friends may call from noon until time of services at the church on Saturday. The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic Transition Care Team, Mayo Hospice and Chosen Valley Care Center staff for the wonderful care and support Norm received.
