Norma Jean Williams

June 29, 1930 — January 23, 2020

Norma Jean Williams, 89 of Northfield, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona. She was born on June 29,1930 in South Dakota to Martin and Emma (Klum) Nelson. Raised in Northfield, MN, Norma graduated from Northfield High School in 1948.

Norma married James Williams on October 18, 1952 at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She was a member of the Northfield Moravian Church and the Northfield Lions Club.

Norma enjoyed canning, cooking and baking. She was most famously known for her birthday caterpillar cakes, puffed caramel corn, and extra buttery popcorn.

Norma enjoyed playing cards, bowling, playing bingo, and listening to her music.

She was a beloved grandmother who was affectionately known as "Granny". She loved to dance and taught all her grandchildren to polka. The time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren is what she truly cherished.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Jeff) Gjerdingen; grandchildren, Amy Gjerdingen, Andrea (John) Meehan, Ben (Tasha) Gjerdingen, Beau (Donya) Gjerdingen, and Blake (Megan) Gjerdingen; great-grandchildren, Adeline, Grant, Hunter, Shania, Zach, Natalie, Ephram, and Alwyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James.
