Norma Jean (Sanborn) Bestor, 90, passed away peacefully March 29th, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was born February 20, 1926 in Howard County, Iowa to Harold and Anna Sanborn. It was when she was 20 that she met and married the man of her dreams -- Galard Bestor (1944). Together, they set down an inseparable path of adventure, embarking on entrepreneurial endeavors like Bestor Garage (18 years), Preston Motel (10 years) and Hidden Valley Campground (30 years).
Norma was a community shaper. She strove to positively impact her surroundings at all times. She held the title of President, Secretary or Treasurer in her time with the VFW Auxiliary; Legion Auxiliary; Church Women United; American Red Cross; Fillmore County Historical Society; Girl Scouts of America; and Fillmore County ARC.
She was a student of life with an unrelenting penchant for passing those lessons onto all. She taught for several years and was the genealogist for the Fillmore County Historical Society for over 20 years. Her knowledge and wisdom helped guide her eight children -- Terry (Janet), Scott (Trish), Jacqueline (Jeff), Pamela (Alyson), Charles (Cindy), Timothy (Michelle), Todd (Tana) and Elizabeth (Michael) -- 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren through all walks of life. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Drogemuller, her brother, Howard Sanborn, her sister, Wilma Reuter, and her husband, Galard Bestor.
Visitation will commence at 10am Saturday, April 2 at the United Methodist Church in Chatfield. The Memorial Service will start at 11am with committal to follow thereafter. Pastor Mark Woodward will officiate.
