Nancy Carol Spiczka, 75, of St. Charles died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Nancy was born July 12, 1934 to J. Arthur and Eleanor Caroline (Hall) Bensen in St. Cloud, where she was raised. She attended St. Augustine Elementary and Cathedral High School in St. Cloud and The College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. Following college she worked for Sinclair Oil Co. in Oklahoma and Georgia. Nancy married Richard "Dick" Spiczka on May 27, 1961. They made their home in Excelsior, MN from 1968 until moving to St. Charles in 2002 to be near their daughter. While in Excelsior Nancy worked as a legal secretary for General Mills for many years. She also worked for Minnetonka Schools in food service for seven years. She also volunteered for St. John's the Baptist grade school and delivered Meals on Wheels. Since moving to St. Charles, Nancy has belonged to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, served as head of the funeral lunch committee, and belonged to Catholic Daughters and St. Rita's Unit. She also was a member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge. Nancy loved to help people and enjoyed spending time in her garden, knitting and shopping. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and phenomenal love for animals, especially her dogs Andy and Rosie. Survivors include her husband, Dick, a daughter Elizabeth "Liz" (Todd) Grimes of St. Charles, two sisters-in-law, Joreen Bensen of Elk River and Joan Bensen of St. Cloud and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, James, Bill and Joel Bensen and an infant sister Mary. A Funeral Mass will be 11AM Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with The Reverend James F. Callahan and Deacon Leonard Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
