Myron Nilles

Rollingstone,      Myron Arnold Nilles, 56, of St. Paul and formerly of Rollingstone passed away Friday evening December 20th at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was employed in the family remodeling business in St. Paul.     He was born April 25, 1946 to Arnold and Ardella (Scherbring) Nilles in Winona and was raised in Rollingstone. Myron graduated with honors from Holy Trinity High School in 1964 and from St. Mary’s College, Winona in 1968. He completed graduate studies in history and journalism at Marquette University, Winona State University, and the University of Minnesota.      Myron wrote often on topics relating to local social history. His book on Wapasha’s Prairie was published by the Winona County Historical Society as a 1976 Bicentennial Project and later reprinted. His many articles were characterized by a finely crafted prose that was exceptionally clear and eloquent.     Myron is survived by his mother, Ardella Scherbring Nilles, Rollingstone, a sister Mary Nilles, of Brooklyn, NY and Rollingstone, three brothers in St. Paul-Brad (Laurie), Kerry(Kathy), Brian (Lora)-as well as aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, including his godson, Alex Nilles, numerous cousins, and friends.      He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Kent Gerard Nilles.     There will be a Funeral Mass held at 10:30 AM Friday, December 27th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rollingstone with Reverend Michael Cronin officiating. The St. Nicholas Society of Rollingstone, which Myron was a member, will provide an honor guard. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.     Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Church from 4-8 PM Thursday, December 26th and one hour before the Funeral Mass on Friday. A prayer service will be at 7 PM on in the church Thursday.
