Myra (Marion) Arlene McKay, age 96, of St Charles died Thursday evening December 12, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, Rochester Methodist Campus.

Myra was born January 31, 1928, in rural Valley City, ND, to Albert and Lillian (Hoffman) Noeske. She graduated from Noltimier school and went on to nurses training at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, with additional training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Myra graduated as a registered nurse in 1949 and worked at various hospitals including Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, CA, Mercy Hospital in Denver, CO, and in North Dakota.

Myra and Hillis McKay were married September 27, 1952. Myra was an active member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church and its women’s group. Myra also belonged to the ‘One for Fun’ Homemakers group. After raising her family, Myra worked at Camera Art in Lewiston for 11 years.

Myra loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed the Minnesota north shore, Grand Teton National Park and Whitewater State Park where she enjoyed hiking and photography. When hiking became difficult, she took up painting and displayed her paintings at county fairs and the St. Charles Public Library. Her other hobbies included quilting, golfing, camping, playing dominoes, watching the Vikings and Gopher football games, and coffee with friends.

Myra loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her friends. She is survived by three sons and two daughters, Jeff (Sara) McKay of Owatonna, Jerry (Theresa) McKay of St. Charles, Jim McKay of Casper, WY, Joan (Dave) Schultz, of East Gull Lake, and Jill (Scott) Harkness of Rochester. Grandchildren Include Ryan (Mandy) McKay, Kyle (Devon) McKay, Katie McKay, Paul (Anna) McKay, Jim (Elisa) McKay, Erin (Taylor) Swenson, Andrew (Sandra) Schultz, Laura (Brian) Sheehan and Tess (Justin) Brown.
