Houston, MnMyra J. Gaustad, 77, died peacefully Monday, September 20, 2010 at Valley View Healthcare & Rehab. She was born March 18, 1933 in rural Rushford to Martin and Marget (Oian) Sogla. She graduated from Houston High School in 1951 and married Donald Gaustad on December 30, 1953. She worked at Benson's Café in Houston for over 25 years and at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab for 16 years. Myra was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, WELCA, American Legion Auxilary and Sons of Norway. She loved to garden, crochet, bake and cook. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and was very involved in her grandchildren's lives.She is survived by her four children, Ruth (Randy) Tryggestad of Rochester, Donna (Tom) VanHeuklom of Byron, Julie (Vance) Mitchell of Brownsville and Robert (Laura) Gaustad of Houston; eight grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Appel, Heather Tryggestad, Amanda and Ashley VanHeuklom, Aaron (Jen) Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, Jessica and Justin Gaustad; three great-grandchildren, Jada and Caden Mitchell, and Isaiah Townes; four sisters, Bette Haefner of Mankato, Mary Swenson of Houston, Benora (Jim) Krueger of Cottage Grove and Katherine Kulas of Winona; sister-in-law, Avis (Elmo) Wojahn of Houston; brother-in-law, Verdale (Marcia) Gaustad of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1986.Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Reverend Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Church Cemetery.
