Monte Bothun

Monte Dean Bothun, who left us on March 16, 2025, at the age of 66, after battling alcoholism. Born in Rochester, Minnesota, on April 8, 1958 to Gerald and Shirley Bothun.

He fondly remembered his adventurous days with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and his time at Camp Hok-Si-La where he earned the prestigious Order of the Arrow. As a graduate of Mayo High School in 1977, Monte was known for his quiet demeanor but left an impact that was felt by those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Monte juggled various jobs at the Martin Hotel, Perkins, Fast Gas, and Hy-Vee, always approaching his work with dedication and a gentle spirit. He had a passion for music and was a member of the Mayo Spartan Chorus and involved in Mayo Television productions, which brought joy and creativity into his life.

Monte's journey was not without its struggles, as he battled alcoholism for many years and sought help at several treatment facilities. Despite these challenges, his resilience and courage shone brightly, a testament to his character.

Monte will be deeply missed by his mother, Shirley (Fred) Carlson; Step-mom, Marilyn Flick; brothers, Wayne Bothun, Terry (Dawn) Bothun; half-sister, Sue Bothun; nieces and nephews, Jessie Bothun, Fox Watson, Meggan Bothun, Joel Bothun, Tom Mandery, Kim Mandrey, Jacob Bothun, Autumn Jahnke; and several grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Bothun; and his grandparents.

A celebration of Monte's life will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles Minnesota at 2pm. Visitation will begin one hour prior.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Shriners Children's Hospital; the place where Monte spent a lot of time as a child.
