St. Charles, Moneta Mae Thoreson, 83, of St. Charles died Tuesday evening April 12, 2005 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse. Moneta was born March 12, 1922 in Wyattville to Earl and Laura (Matson) Resser. Moneta graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939. She later graduated from the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, IA. On December 23, 1942 Moneta married her high school sweetheart, Donald Thoreson, in New York City. The couple farmed in the Peterson and St. Charles areas until moving to town in 1968. Moneta worked for the law office of Roger Poole, SEMCAC of Rushford, Camera Art and retired from Minnesota State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. She was a member of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church of Rochester, Bible Study Fellowship International, One for Fun Homemakers and the St. Charles Book Club. Moneta was a SEMCAC volunteer driver, delivered Meals on Wheels, offered her home as a Wycliffe Hospitality House and Wayside Christian Hostel. She was always a caregiver and friend of the elderly. Moneta enjoyed travel, gardening, and entertaining. She was a true champion of her children, their spouses and grandchildren's pursuits of sports, music and other activities. Survivors include five children, Jack (Jan) Thoreson of St. Charles; Roger (Barb) Thoreson of Orlando, FL; Dennis (Priscilla) Thoreson of Zumbrota; Mark (Betty) Thoreson of St. Charles and Jill (Jim) Dewbre of Magnolia, TX, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister Phyllis Parpart of Princeton, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on February 10, 1989. Funeral Services will be 3 PM Sunday at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Rochester with Pastor Kevin Sorensen officiating. Burial will follow in Fremont Scotch Cemetery in rural Utica. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel.
