LEWISTONMildred Bertha Micheel, 99 of Lewiston, died surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Sterling House in Winona after a brief illness.Mildred, the youngest of five siblings, was born June 15, 1915, on the family farm in Eagle Valley, WI, to Samuel and Alina (Fried) Schaffner, Jr. She graduated from Fountain City High School and attended a business college for one year in Winona. She began working at Watkins Company and later took a job at First National Bank in Winona. She remained in the banking industry for the remainder of her working career. Mildred was united in marriage to Harold Micheel on June 12, 1939 in Winona and they moved to Lewiston to raise their family. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were a bit older, then she went back to work at Security State Bank of Lewiston and retired in 1977 after 25 years of service.Mildred was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. She belonged to St. Theresa's Circle, made church bulletins and handled church collections for 17 years. She loved gardening, canning bread-and-butter pickles, hosting family holidays, reading, baking, and playing cards and dominoes. She and Harold enjoyed traveling and visited many states, Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Rome. She was an active member in the community and rarely missed an event in Winona County. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Michael Newsham) Micheel of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Robert (Deena) of Sparta, WI, Brenda (Rich) of Utica, Johnny (Liz) of Rushford, Patrick (Tina) of Terre Haute, IN, and Matthew (Kimberley) of Vancouver, WA; and great-grandchildren, Cody, Corey, Connor, Miette, Emma, and Abigail. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, John Micheel; daughter-in-law, Shirley Micheel; brothers, Norman and Edwin; sisters, Lulu and Evelyn; grandson, Thomas; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Friday, February 6, 2015, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in Lewiston. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, Saturday, February 7 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with visitation one hour prior. Reverend Glenn Frerichs will officiate.
