Milda A. (Sorum) BurfeindLEWISTON, Minn. -- Milda Arlene (Sorum) Burfeind, 76, of Lewiston, died Thursday (July 10, 2003) at Altenheim Nursing Home, in Strongsville, Ohio, where she received special care for Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born June 14, 1927, in Rushford to Lewis and Inga (Jensen) Sorum. As a young woman, Milda grew up on a farm outside of Rushford. Following high school, she attended secretarial school in Mankato and later worked in retail in Winona. She married Leonard Burfeind in Winona on Sept. 9, 1949 and moved to the family farm on Mecklenburg Ridge, Warren Township, near Stockton, Minn. Milda helped manage a 360-acre operation and raised a family of four daughters. She was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher of Grace Lutheran Church in Stockton, a member of Warren Township Homemakers and Green Thumbs in Lewiston, a Winona County 4-H leader and volunteered at Lewiston Elementary School. She was a music lover and enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the organ. Milda is survived by her four daughters, Dorothy Bach of Honolulu, Barbara Burfeind-Barbante of Fairfax, Va., Joyce Petrovic of Brecksville, Ohio, and Karen Burfeind of California, Md.; four grandchildren, Adrian and Kathryn Barbante and Marissa and Nathan Petrovic; a brother, Lawrence Sorum of Rushford; and a sister, Clarice Grotjohn of Winona. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Burfeind in July 1995. Following his death, Milda lived in Lewiston before moving in with her daughters in 1998 and visiting all of them frequently. In May 2002, she moved to Altenheim. Funeral Services will be at 2PM Saturday July 19th at Hoff Funeral Home’s – Lewiston Chapel. Friends may call on Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial services will follow at Mecklenburg Cemetery, Warren Township. The family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
