Merlin James Hermanson

May 23, 1950 — January 17, 2016

HOFF FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, RUSHFORD 864-7771
Merlin James Hermanson, 65, of Fremont Township passed away January 17, 2016 after several courageous battles. He was born in Lanesboro to Arvid and Rose (Erickson) Hermanson of Fremont, Minnesota on May 23, 1950.

He graduated from Peterson High School in 1968 and attended Winona Vocational School for auto body repair. He married Wendy Lea Blair on December 23, 1973 in Rochester. Merlin managed an auto body shop in Rochester before he and Wendy started anew on the farm in 1981, where they remained and continued farming and working in agriculture.

Merlin loved everything about his farm, including horseback riding, clearing trails through the woods, snowmobiling, four wheeling, camping, and hunting. He also loved playing cards, especially Buck Euchre and Pinochle. All of these things he shared with his wife, children, and grandchildren. But he especially loved farming. He drove his first tractor at four years old. He broke his first horse with help when he was six. In his younger years he also enjoyed racing cars, especially his 1969 Mustang Mach 1.

Merlin was a down-to-earth and intelligent man with a very strong sense of humor. Those that knew him knew that he would not only give it to them straight, but honor his word. Merlin was the kind of man that faced every challenge with courage and determination.

Merlin is survived by his children: Michael Hermanson of Rushford, Tara Hermanson of Rushford, Lisa (Ian) Anderson of Centerville, Minn., and Samantha Hermanson of Rushford; six grandchildren: Emily, Indra, Ethan, Kyla, Matthew, and Nerisse; four siblings: Ron (Edie) Hermanson of Red Wing, Arden Hermanson of Elgin, Linda (Dave) Hundorf of Rushford, and Roger Hermanson of Winona; and many nieces and nephews.
