St. Charles, MN Merle K. Burns, 87, of St. Charles, MN, died Sunday morning November 25, 2007 at Lewiston Villa in Lewiston, MN. Merle was born on February 3, 1920 in Saratoga Township to Lawrence and Pearl (Northrup) Knauf. She was raised on the family farm. On February 3, 1962, she married Reuben Hermanson in St. Charles, MN. He passed away on June 29, 1991. Merle worked at Troy Store, the Altura Turkey Farm, and at Russ Rentfrow Egg Plant. On November 19, 1993, Merle married Maurice Burns at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. They lived in St. Charles for 12 years and then moved to Lewiston. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Merle enjoyed sewing, traveling across the country, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her husband Maurice, step-daughter Maurine (Bruce, Sr.) Canopy of Lewiston, two step-sons, Frank (Judy) Hunter of Arkansas and Jack Hunter of Washington, 15 step grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Mary Knauf of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by her previous husband Reuben and her brother Vance Knauf. There will be a private Funeral for Merle, at her request, at Hoff Funeral Home- St. Charles Chapel with the Reverend James Callahan officiating.
