Melvin Clarence Brand

Lewiston, Melvin Clarence Brand, 94, of Lewiston died Monday morning, February 23, 2009 at his home. He was born December 9, 1914 in Wyatville to August and Anna (Bublitz) Brand. On August 15, 1939 Melvin and Anna Verdick were married. The couple farmed south of Lewiston until moving in to town five years ago. They were dairy farmers, raised register spotted Polled China hogs and polled Hereford cattle. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston. Melvin enjoyed playing cards, dancing and getting together with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Anna, six children: Betty (Roger) Thesing of Utica; Joann (Bozy) Burt of Utica; Nancy Lorenz of Lewiston; Dolly Whetstone of Lewiston; Susan (Richard) Pagel of Utica and Dan (Chris) Brand of Lewiston; 22 grandchildren: Roger & Brian Thesing, Brenda Schumacher, Staci Harmon, Kenneth, Kevin and Kermit Burt, Kyle Burt, Kimberly Alvarez, Kristie Burt, Keri Jo Burt, Jody & Tricia Lorenz, Todd Brand, Julie Eduputa, Amie Whetstone, Jenny Olmanson, Jena & Michael Pagel, Andrew Knapczyk and Nicholas Brand, 32 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and two sisters: Elna Krause and Mildred Wanek, both of Lewiston. He was preceded in death by a grandson Jerry Lorenz, an infant granddaughter, a brother Elmer and a sister Linda Frahm. Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Thursday at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lewiston with the Reverends David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Lewiston. Friends may call from 3-6PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Pallbearers will be: Roger Thesing, Jr., Kermit Burt, Todd Brand, Michael Pagel, Julie Eduputa, Andrew Knapczyk and JR Cardwell. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
