HOFF FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, HOUSTON - 507-896-3127 HOUSTON, MINN. - Maynard J. Palmquist, 92, of Houston, Minn. died on Saturday, November 30, at his home surrounded by his family. Maynard was born on April 11, 1921, in Houston, Minn. to Clarence and Clara (Paulson) Palmquist. He was baptized and confirmed at the Stone Church in Houston. After graduating from Houston High School in 1939, he worked for Vathing and Son Hardware and Implement. Maynard served in many U.S. Army Companies during WWII. He was an automotive electrical specialist and served eighteen months in Alaska and the Yukon Territory, and six months in Europe. Maynard was married to Helen Flatten for 38 years and had two daughters and one son. Helen died in April of 1981. He worked as an electrician for three years and then a carpenter for 35 years. Maynard was a member of the first Houston ambulance crew for eight years and was on the Houston Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, 13 of those years serving as secretary. Maynard married Anita Hartman Lee in 1982. They traveled to every state in the lower 48 and six provinces in Canada. The mountains of the Western United States and Canada were his favorite. Maynard enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting with his son and their dogs. He is survived by his wife, Anita; three children: Dianne Everett of Oregon City, Oregon, Janet (Paul) Ask of Port Huron, Mich., and Clare Palmquist of Watertown, Minn.; four granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and six great-granddaughters; a stepson, David (Debbie) Lee of Canton, Minn.; step-granddaughter, and a sister, Lorraine (Donald) Orr of Winona, Minn. Maynard was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, one brother, Paul A., and one son-in-law, Charles Everett.There will be a funeral service for Maynard at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
