St. Charles, Maxine Florence Peter, 77, of St. Charles died Sunday October 16, 2005 at her home. Maxine was born July 29, 1928 to Ernest and Fannie (Stockdale) Tibbals in Lime Springs, IA. She was employed at the Kahler Hotel, as a playground attendant at Ridgeway, Iowa schools, Rainbow Cafe in Pine Island and the SE Minnesota Resource Center in St. Charles. In 1950 Maxine married Fred "Mike" Peter, Jr in Cresco, IA. They farmed and later owned and operated Mike's Superette in Ridgeway, IA. Maxine was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. She was also active in Toy's for Tot's, St. Charles food shelf, St. Charles Gladiola Days. She worked for the Country Store at the Winona County Fair and for the St. Matthew annual chicken supper and was a regular volunteer at the Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Maxine enjoyed spending time in the country, bonfire gatherings, croquet, knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening/ canning, spending time with family and friends and an occasional trip to Treasure Island Resort and Casino. Her husband Mike died in 1974. Survivors include four daughters, Sharon (Kevin) Teeters of Chili, WI; Shirley (Stoney) Burt of Pine Island; Sherry Deetz of Lewiston and Donna (Tom) Ulwelling of Fountain, one son Dennis (Tina) Peter of Cresco, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Darleen (Wilbur) Boehmer of Kentucky; Georgia (Arlin) Hebrink of Bristol Center, MN; Iva (Gary) Zirbel of Rochester and Marie (Jerry) Krueger of Chester, IA, two brothers, Alton Tibbals of Decorah, IA and Rex Tibbals of Granger, MN. Funeral services in St. Charles will be 7 PM Friday at Hoff Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Services in Cresco will be 10 AM Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Massa officiating. Burial will follow in the New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco. Friends may call from 5-7 PM Friday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. Friends may also call one hour before services Saturday the church.
