Lewiston, MN Maurice J. Burns, 89, of Lewiston, MN, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Lewiston Villa Nursing Home in Lewiston. Maurice was born January 3, 1920 to Frank and Anna (Hughes) Burns in Worthington, MN. Maurice served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. On October 9, 1951 he married Mildred Mae Price. They lived in Austin, MN where he worked for Hormel for 40 years. In 1989, they moved to Rochester. Mildred passed away April 30, 1991. Maurice then moved to St. Charles and on November 19, 1993, Maurice married Merle Knauf. They later moved to Lewiston and moved into the Speltz Estates. Merle passed away November 30, 2007. Maurice was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. He was also a life member of American Legion Post #91 in Austin. Maurice enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all he loved his family. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include two sons, Jack Hunter of Green Acres, WA and Frank (Judi) Hunter of Gassville, AR; daughter Maurine (Bruce, Sr.) Canopy of Lewiston, MN; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two very special "adopted" granddaughters, Michaelle and Renee Brandt. Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, wife Merle, two sisters, and three brothers. The Funeral Mass for Maurice will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with the Reverend Marreddy Pothireddy and Reverend James Callahan officiating. Friends may call from 9-11AM Wednesday, April 1 at St. Rose of Lima. Burial will take place at 10:00AM Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, MN. Memorials are preferred to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
