Mary Rowekamp

Mary P. Rowekamp, 96, of Lewiston, MN died January 20, 2025, at the Winona Community Hospital. She was born April 6, 1928, at Winona General Hospital on Good Friday to Raymond and Helen (Speltz) Schell. She married Leo Rowekamp on September 14, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Oak Ridge. 

Mary graduated from the Holy Trinity Catholic School and attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona. The couple farmed in rural Lewiston until 1985. After moving to town, they operated a wood shop. Mary was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, and involved in Land Stewardship.

Survivors include her 11 children: John (Deb) Rowekamp of Rochester, MN, Helen (Mike) Thompson of Maplewood, MN, Rose (Patrick) Loughrin of Appleton, WI, Elizabeth (Jon) Hall of Greeneville, TN, Dorothy (Grant) Currier of Huntsville, TX, Donna (John) Wegmann of Cannon Falls, MN, Teresa (Don) Chirpich of Wells, MN, Pauline (Mike) Knowles of Kennesaw, GA, Joe (Kelly) Rowekamp of Plainview, MN, Joan (Brian) Fritz of East Bethel, MN, and Catherine (James) Ankrum of Dawn, TX, 38 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law Frank Hillenbrand, Broomfield, CO. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, son, James, daughter, Mary Lee Briese, brother, Chuck Schell and sisters Jeanne Olmstead, Betty Hillenbrand, Mary Louise Schell, and infant baby brother.

A special thanks to the Speltz Estate for making a happy home for Mary where she could continue her love of flower gardening and bird watching. 

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 AM Monday, January 27th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston, MN, with the Reverend William Thompson celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the service.
