St. Charles, Mary A. Rentfrow, 89, of St. Charles died Friday evening November 12, 2004 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Mary was born July 28, 1915 in Laredo, Missouri to Bruce and Flora (Coffman) Owens. Mary graduated from Laredo High School in 1935 and then worked there for the farmer's exchange. In 1937 she moved to Cresco, Iowa where she worked at Wolistiens Variety Store for a short time. On May 3, 1937 she and Russell Rentfrow, her high school sweetheart, were married in Cresco. The couple moved to St. Charles in 1939 where she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's business and also ran the Produce House while Russ was in the service. Mary also worked at the St. Charles Variety Store. Mary was very active in the St. Charles United Methodist Church, where she held many offices and taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the Charter Commission of St. Charles, active in the local P.T.A., having served as president, and was involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, knitting, dancing, bowling, reading, soap opera's, football and baseball. She had a great love for her dogs, Nina and Tango. Mary entered Whitewater Healthcare Center in December of 1997. Survivors include her husband Russell, a daughter, Nancy Rentfrow of Grand Forks, North Dakota, a nephew Billy Joe Young of Redding, CA. She was preceded in death by her sister Kathryn, who died at the age of 29. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Charles United Methodist Church with Pastors Sharon Johnson and Ky Searcy officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery at St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St.Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services on Wednesday at the church.
