Marvin T. Manion, 86, of Rushford died Thursday December 11, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Marvin was born April 14, 1922 in Brookings, SD to Frank and Anna (Tungland) Manion. His parents died when he was young and he moved to North Prairie to be raised by his aunt and uncle, Amos and Lettie Tungland. He graduated from the University Of Minnesota School Of Agriculture in 1942. He then entered the US Army and served during WWII. Marvin and Gladys Henze were married November 10, 1945 and made their home at Rushford. He had hauled milk and operated a trucking service. He farmed for several years south of Rushford and also logged and operated a saw mill. In 1966 they moved to town and operated Manions coffee shop and apartments for nine years. He later drove school bus and enjoyed growing vegetables and Glads. In 1978 they moved to Lake Minnewawa near McGregor, MN before returning to Rushford in 1989. He entered Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in 2001. Marvin belonged to Rushford Lutheran Church, Rushford American Legion and the Disabled American Vets. Survivors include his wife Gladys, a son Jerry (Debra) Manion of Big Lake, MN a daughter Peggy (Larry) Zdon of Minneapolis, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Stephen in August of 1956, three sisters, two brothers and his parents. Funeral Services will be 11AM Monday at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Reverend Gary Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford. The Rushford American Legion Post will conduct military graveside honors.
