Marvin John Ellinghuysen, 93, of rural Winona, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Lake Winona Manor, where he has resided for the past 15 months.
Marvin was born April 15, 1925 in Hillsdale Township of Winona County to Ferdinand and Viola (Zimmerman) Ellinghuysen. At the age of two his family moved to Plainview. Marvin farmed there until returning to the Lewiston area in 1963 to farm. He married Gladys Prigge on June 4, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Silo in rural Lewiston. Marvin attended Grubb School until eighth grade. Marvin picked corn and filled many silos for neighbors for many years. He enjoyed this work very much. His interests also included operating a lumber saw mill, wood working and making intricate Christmas ornaments for all his grandchildren. Each year a different ornament. He loved to tinker and enjoyed picking up walnuts and cracking them throughout the winter. He continued with the walnuts while living at the manor.
Marvin is survived by Gladys, his wife of 68 years, a daughter, Mary Feller of Watertown, South Dakota, a son, Allyn of rural Winona, eight grandchildren, Martha Feller of Washington state, Jeremy Feller of North Carolina, Laura Feller of Watertown, Annie (Rob) Konold of Watertown, Wendy (Johannes) Badenhorst of Lanesboro, Emily (Pete) McIntire of St. Charles, Jesse (Amy Doughty) Ellinghuysen of rural Winona and Lisa (Brandon) Rakstad of rural Winona, seven great-grandchildren; Christine, Madalyn, Lilly, Paisley, Daniel, Kathryn and Sawyer. He loved his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by a sister Leona Klassen of Plainview, a brother Franklin (Bernadine) of Plainview, sister-in-law, Barb Prigge, brothers-in-law, Willard (Joanne) Prigge and David Timm, a step-brother, Willard Mussell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Edna, brothers, Harold and Clarence (Pat), sisters, Arlene Pitman, Marion (Melvin) Dickinson, brother-in-laws John Prigge and Everett Klassen and a sister-in-law Margaret Timm. A daughter-in-law Kathryn Ellinghuysen also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church- Silo in rural Lewiston with the Reverend William Meilner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 4-8 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday.
