Marian (Mullen) Whetstone, age 107 of Stockton, passed away at the home of her daughter on Monday, January 1, 2018. Marian was born on November 19, 1910 in Winona to Frank and Carrie (Madland) Mullen. She was the second oldest of eight children. She married Lawrence Whetstone in 1937 and they made their home in Minnesota City until moving to Stockton in 1971. They had one daughter, Darlene. She and her husband were ardent gardeners with Marian preserving the produce and making delicious jams and jellies. She loved flowers and had a large assortment of many varieties in her yard. Marian enjoyed her trips to the Springfield, IL area and visiting the historical Lincoln sites. She especially appreciated spending winters in Florida with her daughter and son-in-law, going to the beach shelling, shopping, and relaxing in the sunshine. She made these trips up until the age of 102. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Church in Minnesota City. Marian is survived by her daughter Darlene and son-in-law, Pete Kuklinski; brother, Sylvester Mullen; sister-in-law, Phyllis Mullen; and special niece, Rose Benke, who often helped with her care and kept her supplied with oatmeal cookies; and many more nieces and nephews who were all special to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1986; parents; sisters, Ellen Berry, Margaret Hogan, and Rose Hackman; and brothers, Gordon, Francis, and Bernard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minnesota City with Reverend William Kulas officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2017 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center, Goodview, and one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 8, 2017 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Memorials in memory of Marian may be made to Winona Area Hospice or a charity of choice.
