Gorder, 82, of Peterson, Minn. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2011.Marian was born on November 25, 1928, at home, in Houston County, Minn. to Silas and Marie (Johnson) Evans. She was raised in the Houston and Peterson areas and graduated from Peterson High School in 1947. On May 25, 1948, she married Reuben Gorder in Houston, Minn. Marian ran Mary's IGA in Peterson until it burned down in 1964. She worked for Rush Products and retired from Peerless Chain in Winona. Marian worked part-time at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford until 1999. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson where she taught Sunday school in the 1970s. Marian was a member of the Peterson American Legion Auxiliary. She was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and greatly enjoyed listening to their games as well as her grandsons' high school football games. Marian crocheted over 200 afghans for her family and friends and enjoyed baking (especially during the holidays), gardening, and babysitting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian was a hard worker and a very selfless person, always putting other people's needs ahead of her own. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Jeff Fitting) Burt of Money Creek, Minn.; five grandchildren: Amber (Andy) Torgerud, Tim (Lindsey Harne) Johnson, Matthew Burt, Michael Burt and Tyler Burt; six great-grandchildren: Judah, Ashton, Alex, Drew, Timmy Jr. and Linnea; two sisters, Doris Mindrum and Carol Paulson; many nieces and nephews; and by her dog, Emmy Lou. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben, and one brother, Stanley Evans. There will be a funeral service for Marian at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson with the Rev. Ron Warnes officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Evangelical Free Cemetery in Houston. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
