Marian A. Krockow

September 17, 1904 — February 23, 2004

One of Rushford's oldest residents, Marian A. Krockow, 99, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2004, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Marian was born to Ernest and Mina (Tagland) Krockow at their home at 222 West Stevens Ave. on September 17, 1904. She was baptized and later confirmed at Rushford Lutheran Church. Marian attended the Rushford Public School and was a graduate of the Rushford High School. She went on to Winona State Collage and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Marian did her post graduate work at the University of Minnesota and also from Northern Ill. at Dekalb. She taught in Spring Valley and Rushford schools and at Woodstock, Ill. for several years. During WWII she served with the Red Cross at Beaumont Hospital Center, at El Paso, TX and also at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. From Texas Marian moved back to Woodstock with her sister Ruth, where she taught until her retirement. Marian and Ruth then moved back to Rushford where they were both part time teachers at Rushford School, teaching remedial reading with Title One. Special interests that Marian enjoyed were, reading, traveling, playing bridge and going on outings with friends and family. She was a life long member of Rushford Lutheran Church, and its women's organizations and the former Tuesday morning bible study group. Marian also served on the church council and the historical committee of Rushford Lutheran Church. Marian was a member of the Retired Teachers of Illinois, the Rushford Eastern Star Chapter 93 for over 50 years and the Rushford Area Historical Society. Marian entered the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home on October 8, 1998, due to health reasons. While living there she enjoyed the music programs, taking part in some activities and attended the Sunday afternoon chapel services. Marian is survived by a cousin, Mrs. Jeanne Rogers of Cedar Falls, Iowa and her family, Tom and Marisa Rogers of Tai Wan, Sue and Joe Liautaud and daughter of Hoffman Estates, Ill. Scott and Rita Rogers and son of Naperville, Ill., Marian was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald and sister Ruth. There will be a memorial service for Marian at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2004, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Blessed be her memory among her relatives and friends.
