Margaret Theona (Olson) Baer, 92, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 6, 2011, at Lake Winona Manor. Margaret was born Feb 7, 1919, at home on the Fremont farm, the daughter of Edward and Edith Olson. She married Irvin Baer on August 14, 1936. They farmed in Fremont until retiring to Lewiston. Margaret later moved to St. Charles. Margaret was a member of the Lewiston Presbyterian Church and its Fremont Circle. She was also a member of the Lewiston Legion Auxiliary, the Fremont Sunshine Club and the Fremont Birthday Club. All who knew Margaret recognized a strong-willed, vibrant woman, which enabled her to live a number of years following a major surgery late in life. She was a fantastic cook, always trying new recipes, enjoyed growing roses, playing cards, loved entertaining friends and being involved in family activities. Survivors include daughter-in-law Eunice Baer of Utica, daughters Karen McNeal of Cedar Rapids and Mary Carpenter of Rochester, NY, and son Bill (Barbara) Baer of Utica. Also surviving are brother Jim (Ellen) Olson, sister Dorothy Edwards and sister-in-law Audrey Olson, all of Utica. Her surviving family also includes 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Irvin Baer, Jr., sister Gladys Bain, brother Robert Olson, sons-in-law Robert Carpenter and Harry McNeal, and brothers-in-law Clarence Edwards and John Bain. Our family is deeply indebted to Lori and John Burt, who provided the most loving home for Margaret the past several years and for all of you who so faithfully visited her. Services for Margaret will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9th at Lewiston Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Gerarden officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Thursday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Fremont Scotch Cemetery. Hoff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
