Margaret Marie Byrd, 87, of St. Charles, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Margaret was born March 6, 1923 in St. Charles to George and Bessie (Littlefield) Frisby. She was raised in Saratoga and graduated from St. Charles High School. Following high school Margaret worked as a medical secretary at the mayo Clinic. In 1955 she moved via horseback riding her horse Ganaat to Tucson, AZ. Her journey was a notable one, making national news, lasting three months. In Tucson she worked as 'Horsewomen' and also helped to show Greyhounds. She later lived in Canoga Park, CA, Death Valley, CA, Las Vegas, NV and Brackettville, TX before moving to Rushford in 2003. In 2004 Margaret moved to Rochester, entering Golden Living Center in St. Charles in 2008. Margaret was widowed by her husband Tex Gates. Two other marriages ended in divorce. Survivors include a sister-in-law Valora Frisby of Rushford, four nephews; James Frisby of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas (Kathy) Frisby of Houston, MN, Robert (Carol) Frisby of Rochester and Donald (Sally) Frisby of Galesville, WI. She was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Frisby and her parents. Cremation has occurred. A private family burial service will be in the spring at Saratoga Cemetery in rural St. Charles.
