Margaret Eileen Henry

June 13, 1926 — February 6, 2016

Margaret (Peggy) E. Henry of St. Charles, age 89, died peacefully at her home on February 6, 2016 surrounded by music, prayer and her loving family. Peggy was born June 13, 1926 to Thomas and Agnes Wagner McGrath in Zumbro Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota. She married Curtis E. Henry of Saratoga Township on October 30, 1946. Education was an important part of her life, graduating from Hattie Boyd's normal teacher training, she taught in country schools, later receiving her bachelors and masters degrees in education. Peggy was a homemaker and worked at the Travelers Truck Stop. She began teaching Special Education in Dover Eyota and continued her teaching career at St. Charles Elementary School until her retirement in 1991.
She was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Rosary Society, St. Jude's Unit and Choir. She was a member of Winona Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Daughters. In 2003 Peggy was awarded the Bishop's Medal for her faith-filled and loving service to the church. Peggy was a charter member of the St. Charles Women of the Moose.
She was an excellent cook, seamstress and quilter, having made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. In her later years she made quilts for donations to the missions and a plethora of aprons for church fund raisers, her children, grandchildren and friends.
Peggy is survived by her children, Earl V. Henry St Charles, Carol (Larry) Krohse North Fort Myers, FL (formerly Wabasha), Kathy Henry (Roger Rother) Hastings, Joyce Ellinghuysen Rochester, Barb (Jeff) Jorgenson Rochester, Bev (Bob) Winzenburg Mankato, Rose Henry (Wally West) St. Charles, Trish (Tom) Gathje Rochester, Jeanne Schultz Plainview; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Franklin, Sr.) Olson, Irene Marshman, Katherine Kerrins, brother-in-law Dean (Becky) Henry.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Curt, an infant daughter, grandson Zachary Jorgenson, her parents and brothers Gerald, Lavern, Peter, Maurice and Francis Patrick.
The wake will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church from 4-8PM on Thursday with the rosary being said at 3:30PM. Mass of Christian burial will be 11AM Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, the Reverend Kurt Farrell officiating, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Dotty Jones Scholarship Fund, Moose Lodge Scholarship Fund, or St. Charles Academic Scholarship Fund. The family extends a special thanks to Seasons Hospice. Anyone who has an apron made by Peggy is encouraged to wear it to the visitation or funeral.
