WINONAMarcella "Marcie" F. Pomeroy, 93, of Winona entered the Kingdom of Heaven on April 9, 2015 at Lake Winona Manor where she had been a resident for nearly 8 years. She slipped away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children. She was born in St. Louis, MO on October 9, 1921 to William and Florence (Lanigan) Vogel and moved with the family to Winona when she was a young girl. She graduated from Winona Senior High School and began a career as a secretary.Marcie and Frank Pomeroy were united in marriage on October 17, 1941 at St. Thomas Pro-Cathedral in Winona. Over the years, they had 12 children, the first son and daughter living only a few hours. Marciewas a homemaker until the late 1960s when she returned to work as a clerk at Montgomery Wards. While there, she brushed up on her secretarial skills and then had a long career in that field, first as secretary to the Registrar at St. Mary's College, followed by many years as secretary to the Academic Dean at Winona State College, from which she retired. As empty nesters, Marcie and Frank moved to Winhaven Court and loved being near the Cathedral, the Senior Center, and downtown shops. They had an active social life at Winhaven, participating in card games, Bible study, exercise programs and other activities. Marcie was a woman of great >faith and attended Mass frequently. She always put the needs of others before herself, and there was always room for one more person at the dining table, often extending to short or long-term stays with the family. The Pomeroy home became a gathering place for many friends of the children, leading to the often-told tale that the grass could never grow because there was always a ball game going on in the yard.Marcie is survived by her children: Pat Knee, Frank (Patty Jo), Dan (Julie Schoener), David (Kathy), Jim (Kathy), Joe (Barb) all of Winona, Eileen (Lou) DeLario of Rochester, NY, Bob (Betty) of Pompano Beach, FL and Buffalo City, WI, Mary (Verdonn) LeFevere of Vinton, IA and Diane (Bruce DeFries) Kaste of Trempealeau, WI; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
