Mahlon Galbreath Geib, 75, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Mahlon was born to Jacob and Grace (Galbreath) Geib on their farm in Manheim, PA on April 16, 1949. He spent his teenage years working in construction until he was drafted into the Marines in 1969. It was at that time that he gave his life to Christ.
He served in Vietnam as a machine gunner and was decorated with a Purple Heart after stepping on a landmine; this was the first of several events he would describe as “extensions” to his life. Upon his discharge in 1970, he returned to Manheim and married his sweetheart (Faye Brubaker of Elizabethtown, PA) on February 6, 1971.
Soon, his love for farming and visionary nature led him to Minnesota. In 1974, they and their young son settled on a farm in Wabasha, Minnesota. In 1975, they relocated to farms in the St. Charles area. There, he and his wife were blessed with three additional children and 11 grandchildren. Due to his strong faith in Jesus Christ, work ethic, grit and determination, he re-purchased his hog farm during the farm crisis and used his carpentry skills to build a beautiful home.
Continued diligence built a large swine operation and further land expansion. At each step, Mahlon taught his children the importance of faith, family and country, to work hard with excellence, to invest time each day into the important relationships of life, and to maintain an unwavering determination to finish well. Eventually, his entrepreneurial spirit led to the development of Meadowview Estates in St. Charles and further opportunity to train his sons.
In later years, he found joy in his grandchildren, gardening, camping and reading. His third extension on life took place in 2019, where successful treatment for a heart attack shut down kidneys already compromised by Agent Orange. Even through ongoing dialysis treatment (his “part-time job”), his joy was evident to clinical staff, fellow patients, family and friends.
Mahlon was known for lending a generous hand behind the scenes, served in various church positions and was on the Winona County Fair Board for over two decades. He was voted into the Fair Hall of Fame and in 2022 he and his wife were crowned King and Queen of the Fair.
Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Grace; and brother Irvin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years (Faye); his children Neil (Christy) Geib, Jason (Keli) Geib, Renea (Loren) Kispert, Dawn (Tim) Baker; his grandchildren Bryce Mohler, Brent Geib, Joel Baker, Bailey (Vince) Chiarini, Mary Baker, Jobeth Geib, Serena Geib, Sarah Baker, Nicole Geib, Anna Baker, and Corban Geib; siblings Esther (Will) Shertzer, Edna (Ray) Rohrer, Melvin (Brenda) Geib, Mae (Bob) Risser, Ida Lantz all of Lancaster Co., PA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles and on Friday, February 7 at 9:30 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester. Funeral services will take place at Calvary Baptist at 10:30 AM with a luncheon following. Burial will then take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Samaritan’s Purse or Calvary Baptist Church.
We would like to thank the wonderful dialysis staff at Mayo Family Clinic Northeast, who delivered outstanding care for over five years.
