HOUSTONLyle P. Peterson, 80, of Houston, Minn. died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. Lyle was born on October 6, 1932, in La Crosse, Wis. to Elden and Helen (McMorrow) Peterson. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Houston High School in 1951. While in High School, Lyle enjoyed football and was proud of the fact that his team was the district champion both his Junior and Senior years. Lyle also enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. On July 18, 1959, Lyle was united in marriage with Lorna M. Schroeder at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hokah, Minn. Lyle served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Parks Air Force base in San Francisco, Cal. He worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 34 and a half years as a surveyor and inspector on many construction jobs. He also helped MN/DOT out of the Houston location during the winters for 18 years. Lyle retired on June 29, 1990. Lyle and Lorna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Phillips bus trip to Nashville, Tenn. Since 1995, Lyle and Lorna had taken 121 trips with Phillips Bus. Lyle was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston, a 26 year member of the Houston American Legion Club and was a member of the Minnesota Retired State Employee's Association.He is survived by his wife Lorna and his mother, Helen Peterson of Houston. Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Elden and brother, Everett.The family prefers memorials to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation for cancer research, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayo Clinic for Cancer Research, Houston Area Cancer Support Group or to the donor's choice. There will be a Funeral Mass for Lyle at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston with the Rev. Pratap Reddy officiating.
