Lyle J Ziegeweid

December 14, 1932 — January 11, 2016

Lyle John Ziegeweid, 83 of Minnesota City, MN died Monday, January 11, 2016 peacefully at home in the loving care of his family. His strength, inspiration, courage and joy in living will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He loved life and continued to have a positive attitude throughout his contending with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for ten years plus a heart condition. Lyle cherished his family and enjoyed life and socializing with family and friends plus telling a few jokes. He left a legacy of faith and a strong work ethic. He lived by the motto of giving 150% to everything he did. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He enjoyed fishing in the Canadian boundary waters as well as locally. With a zest for life he lived it to the fullest and had an ever-positive attitude. He will not be forgotten by those he loved and loved him.
Lyle was born on December 14, 1932 at home in the town of Glencoe, WI, the son of Wilmer and Zoa (Hansen) Ziegeweid in a family of fourteen children. He attended Glencoe Cowie country school, St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from Arcadia High School. On February 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joann Sophie Bambenek, his high school sweetheart at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pine Creek, WI.
He entered the Army in 1953 and served his country in the Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict until December 1955. He then worked for Federal Bakery, Standard Oil Company and Salet's Floor Covering Department. In 1961 he and Joann founded their own company of Lyle's Interiors and operated it until 1977 when they sold it to his brother, David and his wife Therese. They then purchased and operated Rite-Way Canvas, Shade & Upholstery until 1990. Upon selling it they established Flags & Poles Int'l of Winona.
Lyle was a member of St. Casimir's Parish, lifetime member of the Winona Knights of Columbus and its 4th Degree as well as the Winona Elks Lodge and the Buffalo County Breakfast Club. Also a member of the Minnesota City Historical Society, Polish Museum, Winona County Old Settlers Association and one of the charter members of the Winona Clown Club.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Gundersen Lutheran - East Building and Winona Health for the wonderful and special care he received over these many years.
Survivors include his wife, Joann of almost 60 years; two sons, Brian and John (Deborah) of Winona; grandchildren, Nicholas of Des Moines, Joshua of Chicago and Tara; sisters, Mary (Ben) Boschee of Deer Park, WA, Norma (Don) Bautch of Appleton, WI; brothers, David (Therese) of Winona, James (Judy) of Arcadia, Gregory (Phyllis) of West Allis, Bernard (Michelle) of Arcadia and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rita and Ethel and brothers, Robert, Joseph, Wilmer Jr., Charles and Mark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Casimir's Catholic Church with the Reverend Monsignor Richard Colletti officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Friday at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview with a prayer service at 6 p.m. followed by an Elks Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Glencoe (rural Arcadia).
In lieu of flowers, the family feels strongly that Masses be offered or a memorial donation be made to St. Casimir's Church, St. Joseph's Cemetery, the Polish Museum or to the donor's choice in Lyle's memory.
