HOUSTON, MINN. - Lyle E. Briggs, 94, of Houston, died peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2007, at the Golden Living Care Center in LaCrescent, Minn , surrounded by his family and friends. Lyle was born on January 7, 1913 in Houston to Hollis and Gertrude Maude (Chapel) Briggs. He was a lifelong Houston resident. Lyle received a B.A. in Business and Economics in 1934, and in the fall of that year he entered the University of Minnesota to study law pertaining to business and finance. In 1938 he worked for the U.S. Employment services in Rochester where he met Joyce Fieck. They were married in 1939. In 1941, he returned to Houston and served as Vice President of Security State Bank. Lyle was inducted into the Army in 1944, and worked at Winter General Hospital in the Medical Dept. Following the military, Lyle moved back to Houston to work at the family bank where he served as President until 1978. He was an active member of Rochester Scottish Rite, Zurah Temple Shrine. Lyle was President of the Independent Bankers of Minnesota; A member of the Eastern Star, Free Masons, American Legion, and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. Lyle will be remembered for his quiet, quick wit, his sense of humor, and his unconditional love and devotion to his family. Lyle's heart was and will always be in the community of Houston. He touched many lives and helping people was of great importance to him. Lyle was a true gentleman. He is survived by two daughters: Mary Kay Briggs of St. Paul, Minn. and Hollie Briggs of LaCrescent, Minn.; three grandchildren: Philip, Ryan, and Merideth Springstead. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Joyce and his parents. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Service held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, Lyle's body will be cremated with burial of his cremated body in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn.
