Lewiston, Lyda Ann Duane, 94, of Lewiston died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital. Lyda was born February 1, 1915 in Wabasha to Alfred and Ann (Kitzman) Stephan. She lived in Elgin and Winona, graduating from Winona High School. Lyda and John "Jack" Duane were married August 8, 1939 in Winona and moved to the Twin Cities. In 1952 they moved to Lewiston, where they bought a home and business, Duane's Store. She worked there on and off until closing the store in 1985. Lyda was a mother first, grandmother, wife and caregiver. She volunteered at Lewiston Villa, Senior Center and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a member and was always offering a helping hand. Lyda is survived by a daughter, Patricia Cooper of Aubundale, FL, four grandchildren: Cindy (John) Cauthers of Lewiston, Debbie Fenske (Drew Copay) of LeRoy, James Johnston of Orlando, FL and Tim (Margie) Wangen of Kendell, WI, seven great-grandchildren: Melissa, Lyda, Eve, Shawn, Drew, Heather and Brandon, six great-great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Nevin, Sloan, Hunter, Bryn and Trinity, a special friend, Nikki Ruedy and her daughter Arianna and many other friends. Everyone that met Lyda loved her smile and kindness. She was everyone's grandma. Lyda was preceded in death by her husband Jack on February 6, 1995, her parents a brother Darwin Stephan and a sister Fern Renke. She loved life, her garden, grandchildren and trips to Florida, but caring for others was what she loved the most. Funeral Mass will be 10:30AM Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with the Reverend Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8PM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home in Lewiston. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
