Luther A. Myhro, 99, of Rushford, MN died on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Luther was born on December 7, 1924, in Spring Grove, MN to Amos and Oline (Vinge) Myhro. Luther was united in marriage with Carolyn (Ellingson) in Spring Grove.

Luther is survived by his son, Steve Myhro and his wife Sarah of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren: Christopher (Jacque), Colin (Dani) and Jenna (Austin Williams); and two great-grandchildren, Brinley Myhro and Myla Williams.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Sandy; his parents; and a son, Michael.

1924 was a long time ago. I could write pages on the life that Dad experienced. It was a full and active life. There were tough times, but Dad overcame so many difficult situations in his life. He was such a resilient person and really thought he would live forever. He was part of “The Greatest Generation” having served in World War Two, and he was proud of his service. He had the opportunity to be part of an Honor’s Flight with other veterans to Washington DC. Dad was a man of faith who loved his family and had a great love for the community of Rushford. He was there for Rushford, and he had so many amazing friends who were there for him. Volunteering with the Lions Club was a passion for him. He loved his grandchildren so much. They were his world, and he was very proud of them.

When I reflect on his life and all his accomplishments the list is long.

What will we all remember about Dad? Playing cards with friends and family (especially cribbage), he would have the cribbage board set up and cards shuffled whenever we came to visit, and yes – he won more than he lost, many golfing adventures and of course, “The Lupy League” at Ferndale for over 25 years, teeing off as the ceremonial starter for the Memorial Tourney and striping one down the middle at 98, shooting his age and better many times, throwing down his club in disgust if he didn’t hit a “good” shot,  winning the GSLH scramble multiple times, league bowling for 70 years, watching the Vikings and Twins, cheering on Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus as they competed, working out in the school gym 3 days a week with his buddies followed by donuts and coffee at Norseland, cruising downtown in the back of a truck watering the flowers, delivering Lions Birthday Calendars (nobody knew the backroads surrounding Rushford better than Dad), surviving COVID and walking the park to regain his strength in subzero temps, his beautiful baritone voice singing so loud you could never hear yourself singing in church, playing his harmonica with gusto, managing the church cemetery (for what we think was maybe 50 years), amazing trips with Sandy and Alan, rafting rapids, zip lining, an all day horseback ride in the mountains of Montana (all this at 90 years old), a Disney Cruise to the Caribbean, and the list goes on………

What will I remember the most? He was the best father a son could want. As he got older, he became much more dependent on me to take care of everything, and I did my best to be there for him. When I retired from teaching, I was able to come down every Monday to play in the “Lupy League” Our last round together was when Dad was 98. We were paired up together that final time (pretty sure there was nothing random about that). Together we shot even par 36 at Ferndale. So many memories.

We love you and we will miss you. Thanks for everything, Dad.

“I cannot turn back, for I have entered into an irrevocable contract with God. I have committed my life to Jesus Christ and He has given me eternal life.”
