Lucille Mildred Glende

Altura, Minn. Lucille M. Glende, 87, of Altura, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, MN. Lucille was born on February 20, 1919 to August and Milda (Ohm) Klavitter in Winona County. She was raised around the Wyattville area. Lucille graduated from Winona Senior High School and went on to receive her Teachers Certificate at Winona State Teachers College. She taught for several years at Wiscoy Area and Rush Creek. On November 16, 1941 Lucille married Millard Glende at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilson, MN. Together they farmed north of Altura. She was a member of Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura, the Jehovah Ladies Guild, Townline Homemakers, and the OWLS. Church was very important to Lucille, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and helped in the Jehovah Nursery Roll. She also was a substitute teacher for many years. Lucille was a past recipient of the Rural School Teacher of the Year award at the Winona County Fair. Millard died on August 24, 1998, they were married for 56 years. This last year she became a resident of Lewiston Villa where she made many new friends and became involved in their activities. Her life was her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening,and birds. Lucille is survived by 5 children, Shirley Glende-Ballard of Winona, MN; Ardi (Jim) Gibbs of Byron, MN; Donnie (Sue) Glende of Lewiston, MN; Gladi (John) Sippel of River Falls, WI; and Paul (Jackie) Glende of Altura, MN, 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren, 3 step great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Marilyn Mueller of Lewiston, MN; Betty Bergler of Winona, MN; and Arlene Sommer of Lewiston, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Millard, a son Allyn, daughter in-law Nell, son in-law Les Ballard, and 3 brother in-laws. The Funeral Service for Lucille will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 11:00am at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura with the Reverends David A. Fischer and Michael A. Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30-7pm on Wednesday, December 6 at the church and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
