St. Charles, Lucille Ida Burke, 92, of St. Charles died Monday morning September 27, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness. Lucille was born September 18, 1912 in Wiscoy Township of Winona County to William and Sophie (Kowalewski) Krage. She graduated from Winona Normal School and taught in rural schools, including East Burns Valley of Houston County, until marrying Daniel Burke on June 23, 1937 in Winona. They made their home in St. Charles. After her children were raised Lucille attended Winona State College for a bachelor's degree in education and later received her master's degree, also in education. She returned to teaching and taught for 18 years in the Elgin-Millville High School. Her husband Dan died July 21, 1979. Lucille was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was involved in its' Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. She had been involved in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and was an active member of the community. Survivors include six children; William (Joanne) Burke of St. Charles, Lucille Smith of Lewiston, Cathy (Alan) Campbell of St. Charles, Pat Burke of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Watson of Minneapolis and Dan (Jeanne) Burke of Chanhassen, MN, 25 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, one brother, Tom (Bernice) Krage of Houston, five sisters; Rosella (Jim) Theis of Winona, Harriett Conway of Emmitsburg, IA, Irene Feltz of Madison, WI, Eleanor Stockum of Dayton, OH and Joanne (Jack) Harris of Oxnard, CA. In addition to her husband Dan, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren; Greg Campbell and Patti Burke, and a brother William Krage. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Thursday and 9-10 AM Friday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. There will be a Rosary recited at 4:30 PM and a Prayer Service at 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
