Lucille Burke

Lucille M. Burke, 97, of Rushford, MN died on Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. 

Lucille Maxine Thompson was born on Saturday, October 10, 1925, in La Crosse, WI to Martin and Ida (Sweningson) Thompson. She was raised in Rushford and attended Rushford Schools. On March 3, 1946, Lucille was united in marriage with Vernon Burke in Rushford. 

She worked at Niggle’s Café, Norm’s IGA and later with Jim Hoiness at Rushford Foods, Rush Products, and the Golf View Restaurant. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and it’s women’s guild, Sweet Adelines, Legion Auxiliary and the Rushford Historical Society. Lucille loved to sing and listen to music. If Lawrence Welk or Mitch Miller were on television, that became her number one priority. She also had a great love for all dogs. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo at the nursing home, trips to the time-share in Branson, MO, and traveling all over the U.S. by car or train. Lucille was a very organized person who was always able to keep the Thompson and Burke families on course. 

She is survived by two daughters: Luanne (Paul) Dvorak and Nancy Snyder, both of Rushford; three sons: Tom (Joyce) Burke of Prosser, WA, Jim (Deb) Burke of St. Paul, MN, and John Burke of Winona, MN; two sisters-in-law: Lois Larson of Winona and Frances Burke of Sebring, FL; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Milford “Mix” Thompson; and half-sister: Sylvia Mollenkopf.

Lucille’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Bremmer Suites and Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for the wonderful care and friendship given to Lucille over the years. 

The family prefers memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Services or to Oak Grove Cemetery in Rushford.

There will be a Memorial Service for Lucille at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rushford. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
