Winona, MN Lowell Wayne Barkeim, age 79, of Winona, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2006, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born at home in Jackson County, Minnesota on January 4, 1927 to Arthur Barkeim and Anna (Jacobson) Barkeim Roth. Lowell married Doris June Garness on June 25, 1950 at Scheie Lutheran Church in Mabel. Lowell and Doris operated a family farm near Lewiston until 1989 and later moved to Winona. As a youth, Lowell was actively involved in 4-H, once taking a steer to the State Fair. He attended Lewiston High School, graduating in 1945. Lowell was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewiston, where he had served as an elder. Lowell also served on the Lewiston Creamery Board, the Lewiston Co-op Board, and the Soil and Water Conservation District Board. He earned the 1956 Minnesota Soil Saver award for his accomplishments in soil and water conservation on his farm. He liked to hunt and fish and took up woodworking after retirement. Lowell and Doris shared many trips around the United States together. Lowell enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and was always ready and willing to help a neighbor in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Lowell is survived by his wife, Doris; 6 children: Karen (John) Warmuth, Jefferson, WI; Rollin (Debra) Barkeim, Trempealeau, WI; Brian (Barbara) Barkeim, Winona, MN; Bruce (Deborah) Barkeim, Winona, MN; Darrell (Candy) Barkeim, Milwaukee, WI; Lori (Steve) Hungerholt, Fairmont, MN; 17 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Arleen Barkeim, Pharr, TX. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 11 A.M. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewiston, MN, Pastor David Fischer and Pastor Michael Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery following the church service. Friends may call Friday, March 24, from 4-8 P.M. at Hoff Funeral Home, Lewiston, MN and at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
