St. Charles, Lorraine Mary Loeffler, 96, of St. Charles died Wednesday December 19, 2007 at Golden Living Center Whitewater in St. Charles. Lorraine was born April 20, 1911 to Bernard and Anna (Daus) Roers in Leaf Mountain Township, Otter Tail County, MN. She grew up on a farm north of Urbank and attended country school there. On May 6, 1930 she was united in marriage to George Loeffler. They farmed in the area and in the early 40's moved to Carlos, MN where they farmed and later ran Loeffler's Café. In 1954 they moved to Whitewater State Park near St. Charles, where she managed the concession stand for the golf course. In 1967 they retired and moved in to St. Charles. She had to be one of the most dedicated state employees. On April 16, 1986 George, her husband of 56 years, died. In 1998 Lorraine became ill and moved to the nursing home in St. Charles, where she enjoyed teasing with the staff and playing skit with her children when they came to visit. Lorraine's interests were gardening, bingo, playing cards, dancing, golf, stream and lake fishing. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Lorraine loved people, talking and getting to know them, she was loved by many. Lorraine was well known for her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. She was very tough to beat at cards, even in her last days. Lorraine was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include two sons, Bernard (Sheryl) Loeffler of Rochester and Dr. Dale Loeffler of Preston, a daughter Lil (Harold) Bartholomew of Shell Lake, WI, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, a son Leland in 2005, her parents, four brothers, Edmond, Willie, Tony and Gary Roers, and three sisters, Louise Becker, Justine Tuel and Tillie Fruth. A Funeral Mass will be 11AM Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River, MN with The Reverend Leroy Scheierl officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
