A gentle and gracious, beautiful woman passed away peacefully, Friday, December 9, 2016 at Winona Health, with her 2 remaining sisters sharing loving memories with her. Lorraine was born on August 14, 1938 in Blair, Wis. to Bert and Gena (Anderson) Brekke. The family moved to Winona around 1944. She was confirmed by Dr. Brynested at Central Lutheran Church. She graduated from Winona Senior High with honors. She was on the National Honor Society and was awarded Key to the City. After graduating, she was employed at Hal Leonard Music for many years. On October 12, 2001, she wed Bob Gunner. Lorraine and Bob loved traveling and shared many hours of fun playing competitive chess games. They enjoyed 13 happy years together. Lorraine and family spent many a Sundays playing their favorite card game whist. She was also an avid reader with many trips to the Winona Public Library. She had a kind, loving, generous heart, always thinking of others and helping family members when needed. Lorraine always had a good praise for St. Annes Extended Health Care, where she spent her final months after suffering a stroke. A big thank you also to Winona Health and Pastor Franco for their compassion and support. She was a loving sister and will dearly be missed. She is survived by sisters, Ila Johnson of Minnesota City and Gloria Brekke of Winona; sister-in-law, Deborah Brekke of Stockton; brother-in-law, Curt Krause of Lewiston; many nieces and nephews; and step- children, Nancy, Val, Chris, Diane, and David. Preceding her in death, is her husband, Bob; parents; sisters, Adeline and Beverly; and brothers, Thomas, Wayne, Merlin and baby Robert. Lorraine will be laid to rest near her parents in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Blair, Wis. A remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Hoff Celebration of Life Center, Goodview, with Reverend Wade Davick officiating.
