HOFF FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE, HOUSTON, MINN. 507-896-3127 SPRING GROVE, MINN. - Loran D. Sayles, 68, of Spring Grove, Minn. passed away peacefully on September 26, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 30, 1942, to Donald and Mildred (Rasmussen) Sayles in rural Stanley, Wis. Loran attended Stanley High School. He married Edna Dearth on April 7, 1962, in Owen Wis. He owned and operated Sayles Construction in the Owen area until 1982, when he and his family moved to the Spring Grove, Minn. area. He then worked for Webster Industries and Featherlite Trailers until he retired in 2007. Loran enjoyed his horses and the Green Bay Packers. He spent endless hours working with his horses preparing them for horse pulling contests and had many trophies to show for his efforts. He served as Vice President of the Minnesota Horse Pullers Association. Loran loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his children: sons, Rex (Rhonda) and their children, Stephanie, Amber and Chelsey of Sycamore, Ill.; Dustin (Janelle) of Houston, Minn.; daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Anderson and their children, Jessica and Kyle of Bangor, Wis.; brother, Eugene (Bonnie) Sayles of Greenwood, Wis.; sister, Patricia Heath of Thorp, Wis.; father-in-law, Elmer Dearth; sister-in-law, Shirley (Phil) Ely of Marshfield, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Deloris) Dearth of Prentice, Wis. and David (Toni) Dearth of Kaukauna, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. Loran was also survived by a special friend, Charlotte McCann. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, mother-in-law, Hilda Dearth; and brother-in-law, Gordon Dearth. The family would like to give a special thank you to Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Care. There will be a memorial service for Loran at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston, Minn. with the Rev. T. Wayne Larson officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Spring Grove, Minn. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
