Lois May Hulshizer, 97, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Whitewater Health Services in St Charles.
She was born on August 10, 1922 to William and Marie (Spillum) Henry in Utica. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1939. Lois continued her education to become a teacher, graduating in 1942. She taught in Pine Creek, Clyde, and Garvin Heights. Music was her passion her entire life. She was introduced to playing piano at an early age. She and her sisters known as "The Henry Sisters" sang at many events throughout their lives, sharing that love of music always with family & friends at every opportunity.
On August 22, 1943 she married Dale Hulshizer and they had a wonderful 76 years together. They worked in building their business Hulshizer Grain for many years together while raising their children. No matter how busy life would get, their door was always open for all family & friends. They loved having visitors.
As Lois' granddaughter Alana put it so well, "We said our goodbyes to this amazing woman, my Grandma Lois who is 97. She was a strong stoic woman of few words but always full of music. She played 5 instruments! She also had some of the best baked goods ever! I spent a lot of time with my grandparents in Minnesota during the summer and she always made sure we had lots of adventures. She was sweet and sometimes silly and didn't put up with much BS! Her smirks toward my grandpa were endearing. I can still hear her voice, "Oh Dale". She taught me to sew, knit, play the piano, and bake. Looking back on it, she also taught me about buying local food...milk from the milkman, meat from the local butcher, and veggies from the neighbor gardener. My Grandma lived a long full life and while we know we don't go on forever, it's never easy to say goodbye. But now she is singing and dancing with her sister's, mom & dad having a good ole time. Until we meet again Grandma! Love you always!"
She is survived by her husband Dale, children Patricia (Tom) Bailey of Wabasha, Cecil (Bev) Hulshizer of Utica, Paulene Trudeau of AZ, and Jeanette (Paul) Kieffer of St. Charles. Grandchildren: Scott, Christy, Brett, Tami, Tom, Jill, Joel, Rebecca, Darci, Andrew, Todd, Alana, Angie, Annie, and Kallie. 32 Great Grandkids, 5 Great Great Grandkids, Brother-in-law Harold Bartsh. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Elsie Motske Waechter, and Gladys Bartsh. A special thank you to her niece Linda Wilson and Janice Loppnow for their endless visits.
